Outdoor Furniture & Pergolas — A Considered Guide
Outdoor furniture occupies an unusual position in the hierarchy of purchasing decisions: it is the element most immediately visible and most frequently used, yet it is often the last thing specified and the area where the most significant compromises are made. The consequence is outdoor spaces that look well designed in photographs and deteriorate within three seasons because the furniture specification could not sustain the exposure.
Our range includes designer lounge and modular sectional collections alongside a 12×16ft adjustable louvre pergola, all built for year-round outdoor exposure in European climates. Aluminium frames are powder-coated to marine-grade specification, and the structural warranties reflect confidence in that specification.
A pergola changes the character of a terrace by defining a room within the open space. The adjustable louvre roof handles rainfall and regulates sunlight; it does not require planning permission in most residential settings and can be retro-fitted to an existing terrace structure.
How to Choose Your Outdoor Furniture
Frame material — Powder-coated aluminium is the current standard for high-performance outdoor furniture: it does not corrode, does not require annual treatment, and does not change dimensionally with moisture. Teak remains a valid alternative for those who prefer the material and are willing to maintain it.
Fabric — Solution-dyed acrylic fabrics (Sunbrella and equivalents) maintain colour under sustained UV exposure for 5–7 years. Standard polyester outdoor fabrics typically fade significantly within two seasons. All cushion fabrics in the collections we list are solution-dyed.
Configuration — Modular sectionals can be configured to suit a specific terrace layout. Send us your terrace dimensions and we will come back with a proposed configuration and price.
Delivery and Installation
Outdoor furniture ships by pallet freight on a scheduled date confirmed with you in advance and arrives fully assembled. The pergola ships in flat-pack sections and can be assembled by two adults over a full day; the assembly manual is detailed and the fixings are labelled. Access requirements, ground-level clearance and terrain considerations are set out on each product page.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a pergola require planning permission? In most European jurisdictions a freestanding garden pergola under a certain height and footprint does not require a permit. An attached pergola fixed to a building may require notification. Confirm with your local authority before ordering.
What happens to aluminium furniture in a coastal environment? Marine-grade powder-coated aluminium performs reliably in coastal settings. We recommend a periodic rinse with fresh water to remove salt deposits from exposed furniture in salt-air locations.
Can the cushions be left outside? The fabrics are weather-resistant; we recommend storing cushions in a dry location during extended periods of rain or in winter. Storage bags are supplied with standard cushion sets.
How long does the pergola take to install? Two adults with standard tools typically complete installation in 6–8 hours. The manufacturer's full installation specification is supplied, so a local contractor can quote from it directly if you would rather not do it yourself.
What is the structural warranty on the pergola? The aluminium pergola frame carries a five-year structural warranty. The louvre mechanism carries a two-year warranty.
